Dustwoven Shawl Knitting Pattern

๐Ÿ•ฏ๏ธ Created in collaboration with Bad Sheep Yarn for their 2025 Winter Solstice Advent, the Dustwoven Shawl was designed to make the most of a fading color palette and to hold a stitched record of our own transitions. As the days grow shorter, we move toward the longest night while the around us colors deepen and shift. The Dustwoven Shawl honors that transition as a piece meant to mark each step in our annual journey into the darkness, offering warmth and beauty to light the way.

๐Ÿ•ฏ๏ธ When working stripes, thereโ€™s no need to cut yarn between color changes. You can carry the unused strand neatly up the side of the shawl โ€” see the Wool & Wyrd blog post Carry Yarn Up the Wrong Side: Fewer Ends to Sew in Knitting Projects for tips on maintaining a smooth, polished edge.

๐Ÿ•ฏ๏ธ Worked side to side in simple seed stitch, Dustwoven features a four-row repeat that lends itself to relaxing, mindless knitting, while an intriguing center seam introduces a gentle change in direction that keeps the work engaging.

๐Ÿ•ฏ๏ธ Dustwoven is an oversized kite-shaped shawl that remains magically light, fluid, and full of drape. The unique construction hints at complexity while staying intuitive, creating a stitch rhythm that balances engagement with rest.

๐Ÿ•ฏ๏ธ The pattern includes instructions for 24-color, 4-color, and single-color versions, designed to highlight fading palettes using mini skeins, gradients, or thoughtfully chosen yarn pairings. Makers are encouraged to use any number of colors while keeping the shaping consistent.

๐Ÿ•ฏ๏ธ Dustwoven is part of the Sisters Not Twins Project, alongside a crochet sister shawl designed by Brittany Garber of KnotBadBritt, celebrating shared inspiration expressed through distinct crafts.

๐Ÿ•ฏ๏ธ Wrap yourself in warmth and light; let your yarn tell your story.
